Managing Product Units & Unit Relationships

Just like setting up your brands, configuring your measurement parameters is a crucial prerequisite before adding items to your stock list. In CloudMA ERP, this is managed under the Product Units screen.

Whether you sell items individually, by length, or by volume, setting up units properly prevents pricing confusion and ensures your stock counts remain mathematically precise.

Understanding "Units" vs. "Base Units" (With Examples)

For many businesses, products are purchased from suppliers in bulk packs or larger dimensions but sold to customers in smaller portions. CloudMA ERP handles this seamlessly by letting you link a standard unit to a smaller Base Unit.

Think of the Base Unit as the smallest individual fraction you use to sell that item. Here are three common business examples showing how the parent unit scales down to the base unit using mathematical operators:

💡 Key Takeaway: If a unit has N/A listed under its Base Unit column (such as Pc(s) or g), it means it is a standalone unit that does not need complex scaling formulas.

Method 1: Adding Units One by One (Manual Entry)

To register a single unit type manually.

Click the blue "+ Add Unit" button on the master screen.

Code * (Required): Input a short text identifier for the unit (e.g., ft, L, Box).
Name * (Required): Input the descriptive, full name of the unit (e.g., Feet, Liters).
Base Unit (Dropdown):
- If this is a standalone measurement, leave it set to No Base Unit.
- If this unit is a larger package comprised of smaller units, click the dropdown and select the smaller core unit you registered previously.
Click "Submit" to commit your new unit to the database.

Method 2: Adding Units in Bulk (Import Method)

If you are setting up your workspace for the first time and have dozens of customized retail packaging metrics, you can upload them all instantly using the interface.

Click the dark blue "Import Unit" button.

Click the light blue "Download" button on the right to grab the official sample template.
Open the spreadsheet tool on your computer and fill out your data row-by-row, ensuring you strictly follow this exact column order:
